چکیده
Abstract Background: Infertility affects approximately 17.5% of the global adult population, highlighting the need for effective and safe ovulation induction strategies (1). Clomiphene citrate and letrozole are the most commonly prescribed agents for ovulation induction (2–4), each associated with specific adverse effects requiring careful clinical monitoring (5,6). Nurses play a critical yet often underdefined role in identifying and managing these complications. Method: This narrative review examined Persian and English literature retrieved from SID and PubMed databases without time restrictions up to December 2025. Keywords included infertility drugs, clomiphene citrate, letrozole, ovulation induction, adverse effects, and nursing care. Articles addressing pharmacological mechanisms, adverse effects, and related nursing interventions were included. Findings: A total of 100 records were initially identified. After removal of duplicates and irrelevant studies, 21 articles and selected academic textbooks were included. Clomiphene citrate was associated with more frequent anti-estrogenic adverse effects, including vasomotor symptoms, visual disturbances, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and endometrial thinning (5). Letrozole demonstrated fewer vasomotor and endometrial adverse effects and has been associated with improved reproductive outcomes in some populations compared with clomiphene (3,4), but it has been linked to musculoskeletal symptoms and potential hematologic changes (6,7). Nursing interventions included patient education, early symptom recognition, laboratory monitoring, psychological support, and interdisciplinary coordination. Conclusion: Although both medications are effective for ovulation induction (2–4), clomiphene citrate appears to be associated with more frequent and clinically significant adverse effects (5). Structured nursing monitoring protocols may improve patient safety and treatment outcomes.
