چکیده
Aims: Hip fractures are a major cause of disability in the elderly, requiring continuous post-discharge rehabilitation. Telerehabilitation has emerged as an innovative strategy to facilitate access to care and ensure treatment continuity. This study aimed to map the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness of telerehabilitation in older adults following hip fracture surgery. Method: This scoping review was conducted based on the Arksey and O’Malley (2005) framework and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Google Scholar databases for articles published between 2016 and 2026. The search keywords included “Hip fracture,” “Telerehabilitation,” “Elderly,” “Physical function,” and “Activities of daily living.” Out of 845 retrieved records, after screening titles, abstracts, and full texts, 41 studies met the inclusion criteria. Data were extracted focusing on intervention types and outcomes. Findings: Telerehabilitation interventions primarily included synchronous video-based exercises, web-based programs, and remote monitoring systems. The results of most studies indicated significant improvements in muscle strength, balance, gait speed, and independence scores in daily activities (e.g., Barthel Index). Furthermore, high treatment adherence and patient satisfaction were reported. However, there was considerable heterogeneity in study designs, assessment tools, and follow-up durations, which limited the direct comparison of intervention effectiveness. Conclusion: Telerehabilitation is an effective and accessible alternative and complement to traditional rehabilitation for older adults following hip fracture surgery. For more definitive conclusions, future research should focus on designing standardized protocols and conducting long-term assessments.
