چکیده :
Background: Breast cancer is one of the most significant and challenging diseases among women, leading to the death of many patients each year. Among its various types, triple-negative breast cancer is of particular importance due to its high recurrence rate, high invasiveness, and complexity in treatment. One of the major causes of breast cancer, especially the triple-negative type, is mutations in the BRCA1/BRCA2 genes, and individuals carrying mutations in these genes are more susceptible to breast cancer than others. On the other hand, the role of vitamin D in processes such as apoptosis, cell proliferation, and inflammation reduction, as well as its effects on the immune system, has attracted attention. This review article examines recent findings on the effects of vitamin D on mutation rates in the aforementioned genes and on the risk of developing breast cancer. Methods: Articles related to the topic, published between 2016 and 2024, were collected from databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed and were reviewed after screening. Finding: Multiple and promising pieces of evidence were observed, indicating a reduction in mutations in the BRCA1/BRCA2 genes and a decreased rate of breast cancer incidence as a result of increased vitamin D intake. Furthermore, calcium consumption (not alone, but as a multivitamin supplement along with vitamin D) was highly effective in reducing the risk of breast cancer. Conclusion: Studies suggest that vitamin D may be a potential factor in the prevention of breast cancer. However, larger clinical studies are needed to fully understand the dimensions of this association.
