چکیده :
ABSTRACT Background and Aims: Missed Nursing Care (MNC) is any delay or omission of essential patient care that can have a significant impact on the quality of care and patient safety. This phenomenon is of particular importance in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) due to the complexity of care, the vulnerability of patients, and the high sensitivity of the clinical environment. The present review study aimed to comprehensively examine the dimensions, causes, and consequences of missed care in nurses working in PICU. Methods: This study was conducted by searching reputable databases including PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and SID using the keywords "Missed Nursing Care", "Pediatric Intensive Care Unit", and "Nurse". The articles were mostly reviewed from 2018 to 2026. Findings: Missed nursing care is recognized as a serious challenge in the health system, especially in critical care units, which is rooted in several factors, including high workload and stressful clinical environments. The most common missed care in pediatric nursing includes oral care, patient positioning, patient nutrition, patient and family education, emotional support, and documentation. The most important factors affecting missed care include insufficient number of nurses, unexpected increase in patient numbers, deterioration of their condition, and lack of teamwork. The consequences of this phenomenon include prolonged hospitalization, increased patient mortality, decreased quality of care, and burnout and a tendency to leave the service among nurses. Conclusion: Missed care in the PICU is a systemic challenge rooted in structural and organizational factors. Strategies to reduce this phenomenon include reducing workload, strengthening teamwork, and implementing an alarm management program.
