Oligodendrocyte differentiation from human adipose-derived stem cells in Multiple Sclerosis

چکیده :

Background: Human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) exhibit a promising autologous cell source for regenerative medicine due to their abundance, easy accessibility, and multipotent differentiation capacity (1). Additionally, ADSCs have the ability to secrete nerve growth factors. Their potential to differentiate into oligodendrocyte has garnered significant interest for treating demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) (2). Recently, advances in the treatment of MS have been reached using stem cell transplantation. Thus, in the present study, Oligodendrocyte differentiation from hADSCs was investigated in MS. Method: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science to identify articles published on treatment of MS. Growth factors and pharmacological compounds are two main categories of agents that can promote the differentiation of hADSCs into oligodendrocytes. The application of Valproic acid (VPA) and Lithium, as the glycogen synthesis kinase-3β inhibitor, is well provided in the treatment of MS. This factor is essential in regulating cellular processes, including cell differentiation and proliferation, by influencing intracellular signaling through specific receptors. Finding: The current review reports that the use of neurotrophic factors such as lithium and VPA as the therapeutic agents is able to restore and maintain neuronal function during MS (3, 4). Additionally, stem cell-based therapies offer an alternative source for delivering neurotrophic factors into the CNS (5). Conclusion: Neurotrophic factors can increase the differentiation of hADSCs into oligodendrocytes, making it a potential candidate for MS treatment.
