چکیده :
Background: Suicidal Desire is a dynamic phenomenon that fluctuates and persists over short time intervals. Identifying the temporal patterns of suicidal desire and using smart technologies for delivering timely, context-sensitive interventions are considered emerging approaches in suicide prevention. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an smartphone-based Ecological Momentary Safety Planning Intervention among Suicidal individuals. Method: This study employed an intensive longitudinal quasi-experimental design. Three university students with high suicidal desire were monitored over a 21-day period using a smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment and intervention system that delivered notifications four times daily (before noon, afternoon, evening, and night).. Whenever a high level of suicidal desire was reported on the predefined suicide assessment item, the safety planning intervention (including reminders of warning signs, immediate coping strategies, and emergency contact information) was automatically activated. Its effect on suicidal desire at the subsequent assessment was evaluated using linear mixed modeling (LMM). Finding: The ecological momentary safety planning intervention produced a significant reduction in suicidal desire at the subsequent assessments (β = −0.26, p = 0.003). The observed effect remained robust after adjustment for the temporal trajectory and the autoregressive effect of suicidal desire. Conclusion: The findings suggest that suicidal desire exhibits dynamic yet short-term temporal stability, and that an smartphone-based ecological momentary safety planning intervention may be effective in reducing suicidal desire over short time intervals. Smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment and intervention systems may serve as a valuable adjunct to suicide prevention programs in clinical and healthcare settings.
