چکیده :
Background: Endometrial angiogenesis is a critical determinant of endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation during assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Progesterone promotes endometrial maturation and regulates angiogenic remodeling (1, 2). This article has reviewed the evidence on progesterone-mediated regulation of endometrial angiogenesis, focusing on VEGF signaling and microRNA-associated mechanisms relevant to implantation and ART. Methods: A narrative review was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and Google Scholar for studies published through June 2026, without language restrictions. Search terms included endometrial angiogenesis, exogenous progesterone, luteal phase support, assisted reproductive technology, VEGF, microRNAs, endometrial receptivity, and their synonyms and related terms. Findings: Exogenous progesterone may regulate endometrial angiogenesis by modulating VEGF expression, endothelial remodeling, and angiogenesis-related microRNAs, such as miR-16-5p and miR-17-5p. Progesterone also promotes vascular development and endometrial maturation during the implantation window, thereby enhancing endometrial receptivity (3, 4). Molecular responses varied according to treatment protocols, dosage, timing, and patient characteristics. Studies have also suggested that progesterone interacted with multiple signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis and embryo implantation, highlighting its regulatory role in reproductive success (1, 3-5). Conclusion: Exogenous progesterone may help improve endometrial receptivity and assisted reproductive outcomes by regulating endometrial angiogenesis through VEGF signaling, endothelial remodeling, and angiogenesis-related microRNAs.
