A Review of the Prevalence and Treatment of Musculoskeletal Disorders in Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Postpartum

چکیده :

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are common during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, reducing physical function, quality of life, and infant care ability [2,3]. Due to their high prevalence and negative outcomes, evaluating effective treatments, especially non-pharmacological approaches, is necessary. This study reviews evidence on their prevalence and treatment. Method: This narrative review was conducted by searching Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect databases using the keywords musculoskeletal disorders, low back pain, pelvic pain, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Articles were selected after evaluating their title, abstract, and relevance to the study objectives. Findings: Musculoskeletal disorders are highly prevalent during pregnancy and postpartum, affecting more than half of women [1]. Low back pain, pelvic pain, neck and shoulder pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome are the most common problems [3]. Hormonal changes, weight gain, displacement of the center of gravity, and pressure on muscles, joints, and nerves are contributing factors [3]. Physiotherapy, exercise therapy, and yoga have been reported to reduce pain and improve function [4,5]. Conclusion: These disorders are highly prevalent and reduce quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions, especially physiotherapy, exercise, and yoga, are effective in reducing symptoms and improving function. Hydrotherapy and acupuncture have shown promising results; however, further studies are needed to confirm their long-term efficacy and safety
