چکیده :
Aims: Relationship obsessive-compulsive disorder (ROCD) is characterized by obsessive doubts, reassurance seeking, and emotional distress, which may undermine socio-emotional competence. The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of short-term object relations therapy on dimensions of socio-emotional competence in married women with ROCD symptoms. Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest-follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population comprised married women presenting with ROCD symptoms who attended psychology clinics in Isfahan, Iran, during 2024-2025. Following screening, 35 participants were voluntarily recruited and randomly assigned to the intervention (n=17) and control (n=18) groups. The intervention group received 14 sessions (45 minutes each) of short-term object relations therapy based on Stadter’s protocol (2009), whereas the control group received no intervention. Measures included the Socio-Emotional Competence Questionnaire (SESI) and the Relationship Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Questionnaire (ROOC-R). Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests. Findings: Repeated-measures ANOVA indicated that the main effect of time was significant across all three dimensions of socio-emotional competence, including emotion regulation and management (F=35.967, P<0.001), emotion expression and recognition (F=10.870, P<0.001), and emotion understanding and comprehension (F=26.655, P<0.001). These improvements persisted through the follow-up assessment. Conclusion: Short-term object relations therapy may lead to improved socio-emotional competence with three-month maintenance among married women with ROCD symptoms. Therefore, implementing this intervention in counseling and psychotherapy settings for this population is recommended.
