Effectiveness of Digital Interventions in Promoting Self-Management, Quality of Life, and Mental Health Among Older Adults with Chronic Diseases: A Scoping Review

چکیده :

Aims: The growing burden of chronic diseases in aging populations necessitates innovative care strategies. This scoping review aims to map the evidence regarding the effectiveness of digital health interventions on self-management, quality of life (QoL), and mental health in older adults with chronic conditions. Method: Guided by the JBI framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and SID for articles published between 2018 and 2024. Keywords included “Digital Interventions”, “Telehealth”, “Self-Management”, and “Older Adults”. After screening, 22 relevant studies were selected for data extraction and thematic synthesis. Findings: Digital interventions, including mHealth applications, wearable devices, and telemonitoring, significantly enhanced patients’ self-efficacy, medication adherence, and proactive symptom management. Furthermore, these platforms facilitated continuous patient-provider communication, which effectively reduced feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression, thereby improving overall QoL. However, cognitive barriers, low digital health literacy, and poor user-interface design for the elderly were identified as primary challenges to sustained engagement. Conclusion: Digital interventions are highly effective tools in community health nursing for empowering older adults in chronic disease management. To maximize clinical and psychological benefits, future interventions must prioritize age-friendly designs and provide adequate digital literacy training for the elderly.
