Impacts of Placement and Control Modes of Large-Scale PV Systems on the Steady-State Performance of the IEEE 39-Bus

چکیده :
Increased integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems into power grids is motivated by several factors, including balancing electricity supply and demand, the global shift towards renewable energy and the potential for reduced power losses. Although PV systems were initially synonymous with small-scale, distributed generation like rooftop installations, large-scale PV plants with capacities exceeding tens of megawatts are becoming increasingly prevalent. The effects of these large-scale installations on critical power system performance metrics, such as power losses, can vary considerably compared to their smaller-scale counterparts. Additionally, the advanced capabilities of modern smart inverters, which allow for Flexibility in operational modes like constant voltage and constant power factor control, can influence overall system behavior. This paper analyzes the performance of the IEEE 39-bus test system with integrated large-scale PV generation, examining the impacts on power losses, voltage deviation, and lines loading. The results indicate that locating PV systems near load centers and providing voltage support through reactive power injection may improve system performance and support higher penetration levels of large-scale PV systems integration.
