چکیده :
Aim: This study aimed to explain a structural model of Orthorexia Nervosa Based on Perfectionism with the Mediating Role of Personal Identity in Individuals with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Methods: This basic-applied study employed a descriptive-correlational design using structural equation modeling (SEM). The study population comprised all individuals with IBS who visited the Gastrointestinal Health Clinic in Isfahan during 2025-2026 (1404-1405). A total of 398 participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using measures of orthorexia nervosa, perfectionism, and personal identity and analyzed using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping. Results: The findings indicated that perfectionism had a significant positive direct effect on orthorexia nervosa. Perfectionism was also significantly associated with personal identity, while personal identity was significantly associated with orthorexia nervosa. Furthermore, mediation analysis showed that personal identity significantly mediated the relationship between perfectionism and orthorexia nervosa. The model fit indices indicated an acceptable fit of the proposed structural model to the data. Conclusion: The findings suggest that perfectionism and personal identity play significant roles in explaining orthorexia nervosa among individuals with IBS, with personal identity serving as a potential mechanism underlying the association between perfectionism and orthorexia nervosa. Perfectionism may contribute to rigid and excessive dietary patterns through its influence on processes related to the development and integration of personal identity. Accordingly, addressing perfectionistic tendencies and personal identity functioning may be relevant to the psychological assessment and intervention of orthorexia nervosa in individuals with IBS. Keywords: Orthorexia Nervosa, Perfectionism, Personal Identity, Irritable Bowel Syndrome
