چکیده :
Abstract Background: early palliative care (EPC) is a new direction in cancer care which is being increasingly recognised as an important part of a cancer programme and has been defined as being integrated with standard oncological care alongside it, particularly in relation to managing the symptom burden and improving quality of life for all patients with cancer, including physical symptoms, psychological distress, psychosocial needs, patient-centred communication, shared decision-making and continuity of care.(1, 2) Method: Literature review by PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. The studies related to early palliative care, quality of life, symptom burden, psychological distress, patient communication and shared decision making, and supportive care in cancer patients were identified and reviewed. Artificial intelligence tools were only used for translation and not for searching, evaluating, interpreting or synthesising scientific evidence. The researchers developed, reviewed and approved all scientific content and conclusions. Finding: The reviewed evidence suggests that integrating EPC with standard oncology care can improve patient quality of life and symptom and psychological burden, with analysis of EPC observed over a longer time (≥24 weeks) showing significant reductions in anxiety and quality of life improvements. (3) EPC may also enhance satisfaction with care, contribute to symptom management, and support psychosocial support, patient-centered communication, shared decision making and care coordination. (1) There are some notable challenges with the consistent application of EPC in the context of oncology care, including variations in timing, EPC components, and the models used to deliver EPC services to patients with cancer. (2) Conclusion: Early palliative care integrated with standard cancer care can improve the quality of life, reduce symptom burden, psychosocial distress, and satisfaction with care for people with cancer. (1, 3) EPC also supports patient centered communication, psychosocial care, shared decision making and coordinated care.(4, 5) Keywords: Palliative Care; Quality of Life; Neoplasms; Decision Making, Shared; Pain
