Experiences of patients awaiting heart transplantation: A qualitative study

چکیده :

Background: Heart transplantation is highly sensitive and complex due to the vital nature of the heart and the severe limitation of donor resources. The experience of waiting for a heart transplant is not a purely medical phenomenon, but is shaped in the specific cultural, social, and family context of each society. The present study aimed to explain the experiences of patients waiting for a heart transplant in Iran. Method: The current qualitative study used the conventional content analysis. The researchers purposefully selected 8 patients awaiting heart transplantation. Semi-Structured in-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with the participants. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, and the data were analyzed. Findings: Upon reviewing and analyzing the data, four themes and nine categories emerged. These themes were. Facing the heavy burden of debilitating symptoms and limitations. Hanging on the edge of life and death, Experiencing the support of a social-professional network on the path to recovery and trying to maintain hope through spiritual and mental mechanisms. Conclusion: The findings of this study have important implications for clinical and nursing care. The results suggest that care for patients awaiting heart transplantation should not only focus on the management of physical symptoms, but also should consider the psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of the patients' experience. Designing structured support interventions, promoting therapeutic communication, providing accurate information to patients and families, and paying attention to patients' spiritual resources can help improve their experience of hope and overall well-being.
